What are Canadian EMS providers and what does Canadian EMS stand for?
EMS stands for Emergency Medical Services. Throughout the country, Canadian based EMS and ambulance services are delivered by a variety of methods, including public sector, provincial systems, and the private sector. EMS services vary from Province to Province, and region to region.
In British Columbia and Alberta, the public 911 emergency EMS systems are operated by the Province. In British Columbia, EMS is delivered through the 911 system via the British Columbia Emergency Health Services (BCEHS). http://www.bcehs.ca/
In Alberta, EMS is provided by Alberta Health Services https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/ems/ems.aspx
Both BCEHS and AHS EMS are provincial services that respond to 911 EMS calls in the community. Western Pacific Emergency Response is not a 911 ambulance service, we do not respond to medical emergencies in the community. Rather, as a Canadian based private EMS company, Pacific EMS provides on site medical support to corporations and industry, as well as out-of-province medical transfers. For example, as an Alberta resident travelling to British Columbia, Western Pacific Emergency Response would transfer you between provinces if you had an illness or injury and needed to return home, whereas the Provincial EMS system does not cross provincial borders or travel out-of-country to transfer patients.
