Emergency Response & Wildfire Medical Support

When disaster strikes, the medical teams at Pacific EMS are mobilized with our medical transport, industrial ambulance, 4×4 Mobile Treatment Centres and private ground ambulances to support provincial wildfire and emergency response efforts.

The FireMEDIC program at Pacific EMS provides Paramedics and Occupational First Aid Level 3 attendants to support medical response to wildfire emergencies. This includes providing safety services with Mobile Treatment Centres, 4×4 Industrial Ambulances and other topside medical support necessary to support frontline firefighters in the dangerous work that they undertake.

Emergency Response & Wildfire Medical Support

To work as a FireMEDIC with Pacific EMS, you should:

  • Have open and unrestricted availability during the wildfire season (May through September)
  • Have S100 and S185 training
  • Hold a valid OFA III, EMR or PCP License with Paramedic in Industry
  • Have a valid drivers license
  • Be willing to deploy anywhere in British Columbia, Alberta, the Yukon or Northwest Territories
  • Be available on short notice for emergency deployments which can last up to two weeks at a time
  • Be prepared to stay in remote camp conditions, in hotels and fire camps, including tents

 

FireMEDIC Driver Position

Pacific EMS employs drivers to operate our Industrial Ambulances and Mobile Treatment Centres on the fireline. As a FireMEDIC Driver, you are assigned to support the medic during your shift by safely and responsibly operating the vehicle in support of FireMEDIC operations.

To obtain seasonal contract employment as a FireMEDIC Support Driver, you must have:

  • Class 1, 2, 4 or 5 Drivers License
  • Class 1, 2 or 4 is required to operate our Industrial Ambulances
  • S100 and S185 Course Certification
  • OFA Level 1 and CPR/AED Training

S100 & S185 Training

Pacific EMS organizes S100 training courses as part of our FireMEDIC program. These courses are offered before the start of the wildfire season. Stay tuned for more information. However, it is the responsibility of the applicant to have S100 and S185 certification. Without these basic qualifications, you cannot act in the capacity as a FireMEDIC with Pacific EMS.

Being a FireMEDIC

Being a FireMEDIC is exciting, intense, and rewarding. You are on the front lines of private ground ambulance emergency response in high stress situations. Pacific EMS FireMEDICS fly in helicopters to support remote medevac calls, respond to incidents under a structured command system, and ensure that medical and trauma calls are promptly responded to.

Contracts are offered rapidly during the fire season. Please be prepared to submit your paperwork in clear, easy to download format, with attachments in .pdf format. All paperwork must be complete before seasonal wildfire contracts are offered. Additional opportunities are offered to FireMEDICS during the winter period on a variety of other taskings from our medical response bases in Vancouver, Nanaimo, Kamloops and Fort St. John.
