WPEMS has provided ambulance rental services to Rio Tinto Alcan at the Alcan Aluminum Smelter in Kitimat. When Rio Tinto required a specialized ambulance that could access the most critical areas of their aluminum smelter in Kitimat, BC, the Western Pacific Emergency Response team was called upon to supply an ambulance rental at the Alcan Aluminum site.
WPEMS quickly mobilized an industrial ambulance rental to the Kitimat site, and placed it into service with the Emergency Response Team while they waited for their new ambulance to arrive from the supplier.
The Gitxaala Nation is a remote First Nation community located in the Village of Lax Klan in the North Coast Region. Due to the remote location and water only access of the Village, WPEMS was called upon by the Nation to provide an ambulance rental services when the local ambulance was sent in for repair and overhaul in Prince Rupert. An ambulance rental from our fleet of private ambulances was dispatched by barge from Prince Rupert to the Gitxaala Nation First Responder community, thus filling a vital community need with uninterrupted emergency medical response.
Western Pacific Emergency Response provides ad-hoc, or on demand patient transport and medical transportation services to Northern Health sites when required. Given the vast distances encountered in the Northern Health Region, WPEMS is relied upon to provide medical transport when patients need to move long distances into and out of the Northern Health Regional areas. Northern Health relies on WPEMS to provide timely, seamless, bed to bed medical transport by private ground ambulance on a case by case basis when the need arises.
Since 2024, WPEMS has provided Mobile Treatment Centre rentals at the Port of Prince Rupert to DRAX and Pinnacle Renewable Energy. Our MTC rental is strategically positioned at the Port of Prince Rupert to protect workers on site at the Port due to ongoing ER closures in the region.
Because unplanned, intermittent ER closures in Prince Rupert can impact BC Ambulance emergency response times in the event of an emergency, an on site Mobile Treatment Centre rental ensures that workplace is safely covered at all times with an MTC rental on site, 24/7/365.
The Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Service is a unique integrated model of delivering ambulance and paramedic services in the Kitimat Region. Throughout British Columbia, 911 emergency ambulance services are provided by BCEHS – also known as BC Emergency Health Services or BC Ambulance Service. However, in Kitimat, under a long standing agreement, Paramedics from the Fire Department staff the local ambulance.
The unique training needs of the Primary Care Paramedics who are employed by the Kitimat Fire Department were provided for many years by WPEMS. On a semi annual basis, WPEMS would attend the headquarters of the Kitimat Fire and Ambulance Service and provide annual refresher and scenario based training to the Firefighter Paramedics who staff the local ambulance.
With the significant amount of construction, exploration and development work that is occurring in the Northwest Corridor, there is a strong demand for Emergency Transport Vehicle rentals from Western Pacific Emergency Response.
Customers who have their own in house Advanced First Aid attendants rely on WPEMS to provide ETV rentals on projects that occur in the region. WPEMS recently completed several construction projects in remote areas near Bob Quinn Lake, by providing WorkSafe BC certified Emergency Transport Vehicles and Mobile Treatment Centre support near Bob Quinn Lake.
Throughout the summer season, our FireMEDIC teams provide Paramedic Support, Advanced First Aid Attendants and 4×4 Mobile Treatment Centre units to the BC Wildfire Service throughout the Northwest Region.
Wildfire medical response in the Northwest part of British Columbia is extremely demanding. With remote locations, access difficulties and no-notice emergency response planning scenarios, WPEMS medics are called upon with zero notice to provide EMS support and MTC deployment to high risk, critical calls when lives are at risk. Our FireMEDIC program is active throughout the summer season from our FireMEDIC base in Terrace, BC.
